AGZONE FIELD AT WORK Co-op AgZone FIELD is a digital agronomy tool for collecting, organizing and analyzing data to make informed decisions. After using the tool for a complete growing season, local growers and Grow Team members alike have seen significant improvements in their day-to-day operations. Tanaya McKay, Grow Team member at Borderland Co-op in Broadview, SK, has employed AgZone FIELD tools every day since its launch in November 2021 Starting the Day Mckay was raised on a farm and developed a passion for agriculture early on. According to Mckay, growing up in a farming environment deeply connected her to the significance of agriculture. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan, applying that knowledge and experience in her daily work professionally serving the communities supported by Borderland Co-op For McKay, Co-op AgZone FIELD is a tool that helps address her customers’ needs and concerns faster and more efficiently. In the early stages, the agronomist educated farmers on AgZone FIELD's benefits and functionality. The tool was met with enthusiasm as the growers saw their fields precisely mapped out and categorized AgZone FIELD digital mapping enables easier scouting and crop planning. Grow Team members can generate real-time reports on their tablets right in the field and give immediate recommendations to growers. Additionally, McKay helps her clients by recording soil sampling results, herbicide applications, and more within the tool, to allow for better planning in the future. "A lot of growers may not record what they use on each field or what expenses they have had in the past — AgZone can be a place for them to keep that important information,” said McKay. As McKay visits the fields, she inputs detailed notes into the platform. These records are later analyzed to provide further recommendations, schedule upcoming scouting trips, and create à more in- depth vision of every acre Afternoon Rush AgZone FIELD helps McKay navigate the busy growing season and serve customers better than ever before. A typical day sees herin the field, crop scouting and providing recommendations. Co-op AgZone FIELD allows her to organize all of her field visits, recommendations and record data or weather events by taking photos and notes McKay said that taking photos on location has helped her recommend to farmers what pesticides to use, if required. Photos can be directly linked to field hotspots identified during scouting. "A grower can easily see the field-specific data and identify the insect pressure that needs to be addressed, so they can make the best decision and take action." As AgZone FIELD centralizes all the data Grow Team members input, it allows growers to view their farms on a larger scale. This is particularly helpful during busy periods when these insights can help farmers make quick decisions. With the help of AgZone, McKay informs growers on crop health, applied treatments and any scenarios that require immediate action Wrapping Up In the fall, McKay visits fields to take soil samples and record the results in AgZone FIELD. “The soil testing portion of AgZone FIELD will also tie into the fertilizer blend portion, helping growers identify what nutrients are deficient or in surplus — aiming for a more precise and sustainable crop plan for this year and years to come,” McKay said Grow Team members also gather any data growers collect via other tools to complete each field's profile. Climate FieldView data, for example, is simple to import into AgZone. Within a few minutes, your whole farm's data is transferred over. Unified data allows your agronomist exact field boundaries and acres, increasing accuracy of crop and input planning Tomorrow McKay says that using AgZone FIELD makes planning next year easier. The tool helps to analyze gathered data, identify trends and forecast, providing insights that Grow Team members can use to suggest the necessary actions that will ensure the upcoming season's success Co-op AgZone FIELD will continue to evolve based on feedback from growers and agronomists. As the AgZone digital platform grows, McKay, and all Grow Team agronomists, will have more ways to support local growers with advanced digital tools that make the business of farming simpler — and smarter.
